Welcome to Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School
Elizabethtown-Lewis Central School is located in the Adirondack Park, within the community of Elizabethtown, New York - the County Seat of Essex County. Elizabethtown is centrally located between Albany and Montreal approximately six hours from New York City. Lake Placid (home of the 1932 and 1980 Olympics) is just 26 miles away. In the other direction is Lake Champlain, only ten miles away.
The district has a population of approximately 2500 people ( Elizabethtown: 1,163 and Lewis: 1,382). The Elizabethtown area consists of 82 square miles, while Lewis has 84 square miles. Major industry includes logging and retail lumber, the Essex County Office Complex (which employs many district/county residents), the Community Hospital, Nursing Home, School, and many family owned small businesses. The entire region consists of unique, rural communities, exceptional hunting/recreational areas and the always outstanding beauty of the Adirondack Mountains.
ELCS is a single-building public school district of 275 students PreK-12. Our administrative staff consists of a Superintendent of Schools, K-12 Principal and Director of Student Services.
